“As of today our team has delivered 15 substantial proposals. We’ve reached 5 Tentative Agreements (TAs) which include: a legally binding grievance procedure & the right to have union meetings in conference rooms! But management has not responded to many of our proposals – that’s why we need you to show that you back what we’re proposing by signing the petition.

“Bargaining is going well, we’re on track with our timeline and we’re following it pretty well. We’re moving on the smaller issue things and looking to address the big issue items including staffing and healthcare. We’re aiming to get through all our proposals by the end of the year and are working on getting management moving on that.

“The support from the doctors, nurses, and coworkers in our union has been amazing and continues to show. This petition is another way that shows we mean business and are together in this. This won’t just benefit our members. It will benefit our patients and ensure they get the quality care they deserve. Management is speechless when they see what we can accomplish in such a short amount of time.”

I’m very pleased that we’ve reached a tentative agreement on grievance procedures. Now we will have a specific procedure to follow. There will be a time frame, as well, in which the issue will need to be resolved. The problem can’t just drag on and on. We also won’t have to deal with a grievance on our own – we have our union for help and support.”

Bargaining Update
Our bargaining team has made 15 proposals for contract language to management so far. Of those, we have tentatively agreed to 5 of them. Most importantly, we’ve agreed to a fair workplace grievance procedure – which means in the event of a disagreement with management, an issue goes to a neutral 3rd party arbitrator to be decided. We are waiting to hear back from management on our other proposals, which include:

  • A fair discipline & discharge process
  • Equality of employment opportunity
  • Employee status & seniority rights
  • Employment security & rights for employees if there is a lay-off or restructure
  • Protecting our rights if Peachealth were to sell to another company
  • Hours of work and overtime – including returning consecutive weekend pay, overtime after a shift and other improvements.
  • Premium pay & differentials
  • Free parking and discounted employee meals

We also plan a proposal around improving PTO accrual to bring fairness across the Peacehealth system. Our research has shown that other Peacehealth locations are accruing PTO at higher rates than here at Sacred Heart.
